Choosing a BEST BALLET BOOK
In this BEST BALLET BOOKS series, I will share some of my favorite ballet books for kids. The books have been tested by my ballet students and chosen because they inspire beautiful character qualities like kindness and bravery. They are sprinkled with humor and filled with beautiful illustrations by talented artists.
Best Things about Miss Lina's Ballerinas by Grace Maccarone
1. Singsong Rhyme
Eight girls with rhyming names attend ballet school together and dance through life in two lines of four. Imagine the book Madeline by Ludwig Bemelmans with a ballet theme. This book is a delightful read aloud and your children will be chanting the verses as they get to know the story.
2. Life Lessons
At Miss Lina's ballet studio, all is well until a ninth girl, Regina, joins the class. Dancing in lines of four no longer works. Miss Lina steps in to arrange three lines of three and the dancers reach new heights with their new friend Regina.
Change can be difficult for kids and this book models working through change and being flexible when change inevitably happens.
3. Correct Ballet Terminology
French ballet terms are included in the book. Kids will love hearing the names of the steps in French. Plus, helpful definitions and pronunciation guides are included in the back of the book.
4. A Quick Read
It only takes three minutes to read this book aloud, perfect for days when your child needs some reading/snuggle time but you have a ton to accomplish. This story will leave both you and your child filled up with smiles. I recommend this book for ages 3 to 8.
